How delicious you’re going to be!

Having a slow braai means indulging in braai snacks for hours and hours, and having a blast socialising with loved ones. It not only brings everyone to the table, it keeps them there. Times are changing and Christmas lunches are leaning more and more towards ‘braai feasts’. Feast around the fire with these creative Christmas tree pita snacks – not only are they beyond yum (and a healthier alternative), but they are easy on the eye too.

4 persons (or 2 hungry ones)
Preparation time: 20 minutes

Adapt this recipe to suit your tastes and preferences.

Pre-make recipe and keep in refrigerator for up to 8 hours.

Let the kids decorate their own Christmas tree.

 The Good Stuff:

1 flavoured or plain pita/focaccia bread (flat oven-baked bread), sliced into 8 bit sizes like a pizza

8 thin pretzel stick halves

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup guacamole

2 tbsp. finely chopped parsley

1/4 tsp. garlic-pepper blend (or seasoning of your choice)

1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper

Diced vegetables for Christmas tree decorations

The Elbow Grease:

#1 Use the pita bread wedges and insert pretzel sticks into the centre of the bottom of each wedge to form a tree trunk. (If the pretzel stick won’t stick, use some of the mixture in step 2 as ‘glue’).

#2 Mix sour cream, guacamole, parsley and garlic-pepper for a delicious blend. Spread about 1 teaspoon of the mixture over each pita wedge.

#3 Sprinkle about 1/4 teaspoon of bell pepper on each wedge.

#4 Let the decorating begin! Use guacamole for the tree and brightly coloured diced vegetables for decorations.
